The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Gamma Chapter was founded on December 22, 1926, on the historic campus of Virginia State College, now Virginia State University (VSU), in Petersburg, VA.  As the fraternity’s second-oldest college chapter in the state of Virginia, Beta Gamma holds the distinction of being the first Greek-lettered fraternity chartered on the campus of VSU.  

Since its founding in December 1926, Beta Gamma has consistently garnered national and regional recognition for its outstanding community service initiatives.  In 2025, we were honored to be named Alpha Phi Alpha’s College Chapter of the Year – a prestigious recognition that reflects our dedication and impactful contributions during the 2024-2025 academic year.
